MONTGOMERY WILDCATS – SUNDAY 10/14 GAMES

MONTGOMERY MIDGETS

The Montgomery Wildcats Midgets were defeated by the Hillsborough Dukes. During the first half, the Wildcats got some good defensive efforts from Franky Aguilar, Alec Mikrut, Brian Papsin, Billy Eldridge, Doug Warren and Andrew Hennessey. The Wildcats best offensive drive of the game came late in the half after the Dukes kicked off to Billy Eldridge. Eldridge returned the ball to the Wildcats 41 yard line. Eldridge then followed with a couple of long passes to Mark Flood that got the Wildcats to the Dukes 38 yard line. Eldridge then ran a couple of plays, including a 7 yard run for a first down. This moved the Wildcats to the Dukes 28 yard line. However, the Wildcats were not able to score before the half ended.

The highlight of the third quarter came when Jake Lipowski blocked a Dukes extra point attempt. During the fourth quarter, Eldridge connected with Flood on a seventeen yard pass play that gave the Wildcats a first down. Unfortunately, the Wildcats fumbled on the next play and turned the ball over to the Dukes. Toward the end of the quarter, Tom Smith had a couple of back to back big running plays, the resulted in a Wildcats first down. The game ended after the Wildcats fumbled on the Dukes 29 yard line. The final score in favor of the Dukes was 30-0.

MONTY PEE WEES

The Montgomery Pee Wees lost to the South Plainfield Eagles by a score of 31 to 6. The opening kickoff was returned by Wade Baldwin to the Eagles 47 yard line. Even after some great rushing by Josh Lipowski the drive stalled at the Eagles 35 yard line. Ryan Sohmer and CJ Gatt recovered fumbles in the first half as the Montgomery defense held the Eagles scoreless in the first half. Montgomery mounted a nice drive late in the first quarter, which was highlighted by a 25 yard pass completion from Baldwin to Nico Rembert. The drive faltered at the Eagles 7 yard line and there was no score at the half.

The opening kickoff of the second half was returned for a touchdown by the Eagles. Despite continued good defensive play, the Eagles’ offense got rolling in the second half. Sam Oltmans blocked an extra point kick and Rembert made a stop on another point after touchdown attempt. Baldwin completed a nearly identical pass of 25 yards to Rembert, but they could not get the ball in the end zone. Montgomery got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when Baldwin raced 45 yards around right end for a touchdown. Leading tacklers for Montgomery were: Baldwin, Mark Maslanka, and Gatt. Jonathon Gulardo and Austin James each recorded a quarterback sack. The Pee Wees face Watchung Hills at home next week.

MONTY JR. PEE WEES

The Montgomery Jr. Pee Wees lost 9-0 to the South Plainfield Eagles. On the Eagles opening drive a big defensive hit by Greg Shiffner caused a fumble that was recovered by Chris Chugunov. After moving the ball with steady gains by the blocking effort of Evan Tracey, Brett Ajamian, Jake Bobal, Ryan Murphy and Sean Curry, the Eagles held off the Wildcats advance to the goal line. Outstanding defense plays by the Wildcats defense lineman Kyle McLester and Linebacker Joey DiTorrice held the Eagles offense scoreless in the first half. Mike Decker, Chris Chugunov and Joey DiTorrice all recorded QB sacks.

Down 2-0 at halftime on an Eagle’s safety, the Wildcats fought back in the third quarter by getting to the red zone twice. Penalties and a tough Eagles defense stopped the Wildcat’s scoring opportunity. Running backs Devon Meadows and Patrick Fritzinger were able to advance the ball with blocking from Mike Remsen, Anthony Sempervive , Frankie Wendling and Andrew Bownman. An interception late in the game by So. Plainfield was returned for a touchdown making the final score 9-0.

MONTY MITEY-MITES

The Montgomery Wildcats Mitey-Mites won their third game in a row with an impressive win over a South Plainfield team that was 5-1 going into the game. The final score was 12-7 where the Wildcats made a defensive stand with South Plainfield taking over on offense inside the Wildcats 30 yard line with a few minutes remaining. The first quarter was a defensive battle with the no scoring. There was some very strong defensive play by Dan Mayo, Brandon Szigeti, Jake DeMato and Wyatt Colangelo. All of them had some crushing hits throughout the game. On the offensive side of the ball, Matthew Stagnitta had a great game and set-up the first touchdown with a 40 yard pass to Mitch Chugonov and another great pass that there was defensive interference in the end zone.

The Wildcats scored early in the 2nd quarter with a 1 yard touchdown run by Michael Patrizio-Again, this touchdown run was set-up by the plays mentioned above. The extra point was no good giving the Wildcats a 6-0 lead. South Plainfield score on their next possession with a long run to the outside and made the extra point to take a 7-6 lead. The Wildcats came right back with a tremendous drive lead by Joe DeMato at Quarterback and some good solid running of Zach Masessa. The Wildcats scored on one of the last plays of the half when Joe DeMato found Mitch Chugonov open across the middle for a 35 yard touchdown pass. This pass gave Mitch Chugonov over 100 yards receiving in the first half-A breakout game for him! The Wildcats missed the extra point again and went into halftime with a 12-7 lead. On this drive, there was solid blocking by Matthew Sloan, Dante Musto, Ryan Cashman and Kyle Marrapodi.

In the 2nd half the Wildcats and South Plainfield played a scoreless half. There was some excellent blocking on the offensive side of the ball by Kyle Dudek, Jared Reinson, Liam Fitzgerald, Arthur Sokoloff and Shawn Terlaje. This blocking allowed the offense to keep control of the clock and have good field position. The Wildcats had some strong defensive stops throughout the the 2nd half from Taylor Gatt, Joseph Mercurio, Noah Golestani, Gavin Sudano and Anthony Lopresti. There also was some strong special team play by Jack Winge, Bill O’Leary and Austin Kelly. Some other exceptional play was contributed by Paul Tedeschi, Michael Remson, Kevin McLester, Connor Duwan and Brendan Tscherne.

MONTY GREEN FLAG

The Montgomery Wildcats Green Squad visited South Plainfield on Sunday. The Wildcats played a tough game on defense, shutting down the opposition for most of the day. Shane Ajamian, Will Griesinger, Christian Binford and Ryan Tollefsen, led the team with 6 tackles apiece. Jack Helberg, Max Wendling and Evan Goldsmith also contributed with several tackles.

The offensive rushing attack was explosive, led by Christian Binford (7 carries for 76 yards), Ryan Tollefsen (6 carries for 56 yards, including an 11 yard touchdown), Will Griesinger (5 carries for 63 yards), and Danny Boyer (3 carries for 47 yards). Shane Ajamian, Tyler Internoscia, Ryan Furey, Gavin Kirk, Lucas Kopecky, Michael Milano and Lee Poirier controlled the line of scrimmage for most of the game.

MONTY YELLOW FLAG

The Montgomery Yellow Flag team was firing on all cylinders as they traveled North to take on South Plainfield. Many players contributed to a strong offensive showing in the first half. Christopher Duwan, Anthony DiTorrice, Cole Sudano and Michael Patron all carried for multi-yard gains. Will Marrapodi found space around the left side for a 40 yard touchdown scamper and Mack Bloom also found the end zone with a long run around the left side. Pass completions were had by rookie quarterback Cole Sudano and second year man Christian Boyle. On the defensive front the Wildcats showed there mettle. A strong push upfront by Bailin Pollard and Michael Patron combined with solid linebacking from Reese Clarke, Orion Flynn and Anthony DiTorrice contributed to great team defense and repeated stops for no gain.

The shortened second half continued just as the first had ended. Bailin Pollard carried wide around the left side on 20 yard quarterback keeper and Michael Patron finished the drive with a 10 yard touchdown run. Mack Bloom avoided a sack and ran for his second touchdown of the day. Rookie's Nick Kimmick and Matt Ruckelshaus lead a strong defensive line push. In the second half South Plainfield took to the air, but the strong Montgomery secondary was there to break up a number of passes.
