MONTGOMERY WILDCATS – SUNDAY 9/30 GAMES MONTGOMERY MIDGETS The Montgomery Wildcats Midgets had their best showing of the season in a hard fought game with the Phillipsburg Colts. Although the Colts scored early, the Wildcats came right back to take the lead 8-6. The scoring drive started with a 28 yard pass from Billy Eldridge to Alec Mikrut, and was followed by a series of strong running plays by Franky Aguilar and Mikrut. Aguilar scored the touchdown and Eldridge kicked the extra point. During the second quarter the Wildcats increased their lead to 14-6, behind the strong running of Jake Lipowski and Eldridge, in addition to a 20 yard pass from Eldridge to Mark Flood. The Wildcats had another chance to score before the end of the half, after David Mullin hit the Colts Quarterback, causing a fumble that Ian Gorman recovered, but turned the ball over on downs. The Wildcats led 14-12 at the half. During the third quarter the Wildcats defense saw a lot of action as the Colts drove the ball downfield 80 yards. Strong tackling by Lipowski, Flood, Eldridge, Doug Warren, Kevin Hendrickson, Brian Papsin, and Aguilar helped stall the drive, but eventually the Colts scored on this drive. The extra point kick was blocked by Lipowski. After an onsides kick by the Colts was recovered by Michael Murphy at midfield, the Wildcats began their last offensive drive of the day, moving the ball all the way to the Colts 8 yard line, resulting in a first and goal from the 8. Unfortunately, a strong defensive stand by the Colts kept the Wildcats from scoring again. The final score was 14-18 in favor of the Colts. MONTY JR. MIDGETS The Montgomery Junior Midgets returned to their winning ways this week defeating Somerville 19-6. Montgomery scored first on a 12 yard touchdown run by Josh Reinson after a penalty nullified the previous touchdown scored by Brian Mayer. Then it was time for the defense, as David Bergida returned an interception 67 yards for a touchdown opened up by an explosive block downfield by Ryan Boyle. Montgomery wasn’t finished scoring as Ryan Boyle scored on a 71 yard touchdown run after a Somerville turnover caused by Josh Reinson and David Bergida’s crushing hits. Montgomery’s offensive charge was setup by the great blocking of Arie Gutman, Louis Colona, Erik Witten, Michael Boyer, Drew Binford, Tyler Ajamian, Sean O’Brien, Nick Mertz and Hanson Koota. Montgomery’s defense held Somerville to less than 50 yards of total offense the entire game which was led by Brian Mayer’s 2 spectacular interceptions in which he ripped the ball from the receiver’s hands. David Bergida was not to be outdone with his 3 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) in addition to Ben Kalan’s no less than 4 pass deflections which denied Somerville any type of momentum. MONTY PEE WEES The Montgomery Pee Wees battled with the Somerville Rams with the final score 6 to 6. The game opened with excitement for the Monty Pee Wees when Angelo Colarusso recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff. However, the whole first half was largely a defensive struggle. Monty mounted a nice drive mostly on rushing by Wade Baldwin. The longest run of the drive, a thirty yard dash by Baldwin, was set up with lead blocking by Sam Oltmans, Austin James and the offensive line of Ryan Sohmer, Michael Fidanzato, Nico Rembert, CJ Gatt, Colarusso, and Josh Lipowski. The Rams’ defense stiffened and the score at the half was 0 to 0. In the second half, the Montgomery offense was moving the ball with some nifty running by Lipowski and Baldwin. Baldwin kept a drive alive on a key 4th down and twelve to go. James completed some nice passes to Baldwin in the second half. Once again the Rams’ defense kept Montgomery out of the end zone. Trailing 6-0 late in the fourth quarter, Colarusso recovered another fumble at the Rams’ 11 yard line. Baldwin scored on a five yard sweep play. The extra point was no good leaving the score tied at 6 to 6. Baldwin insured that the game ended in a tie when he intercepted a pass with 32 seconds left. Several Pee Wees had quarterback sacks on the day, including: Ryan Disdier, Rembert, Oltmans and Danny Allen. MONTY JR. PEE WEE The Montgomery Jr. Pee Wees were fell to the Somerville Rams by a score of 18-2. On the Wildcats opening drive Running Backs Devon Meadows and Greg Shiffner had big gains until a fumble stopped the Wildcats opportunity. After a tough defensive stand by Montgomery Lineman Mike Decker, Brett Ajamian Jake Bobal, Kyle McLester and Ryan Murphy, the Wildcats threatened again but another turnover stopped the advance. Late in the second quarter a 20-yard pass play from Joey DiTorrice to Devon Meadows put the Wildcats in scoring position again. A tough Rams defense stopped the Wildcats at the one-yard line just before half time. Interceptions by Jake Bobal and Patrick Fritzinger helped shut down the Rams offense leaving the score 0-0 at half time. After going down 12-0 in the 3rd Quarter, Chris Chugunov connected on a twenty-yard pass play to Sean Curry and followed up with another 10-yard pass to Patrick Fritzinger. Another good run by Greg Shiffner added to the drive, until the Rams stopped the Wildcats again. The Wildcats ground game was lead by lineman Ryan Murphy, Andrew Bowman, Frankie Wendling, and Mike Remsen. Matt Herman returned a kick off 25 yards for the wildcats in the second half. On defense, Joey DiTorrice recorded 10 solo tackles for the Wildcats and scored a safety by downing the Somerville fullback in the end zone. Devon Meadows added another interception late in the fourth quarter. MONTY MITEY-MITES The Montgomery Wildcats Mitey-Mites got back on track with an impressive win over Somerville 20-6. The Mitey-Mites were very solid on both sides of the ball and had a shutout going until very late in the game. The Wildcats scored on their first possession with a QB keeper by Matthew Stagnitta from the four yard line. The extra point was scored by Wyatt Colangelo with a very strong run up the middle. The drive was set-up by a 40 yard run by Brandon Szigeti who broke several tackles on the run. There was also a key catch on the drive by Mitchell Chugonov. This was one of the best offensive drives of the year for the Mitey-Mites using almost all of the clock in the first quarter. Some key blocks on this drive came from Jake Damato, Kevin McLester and Michael Patrizio.The Wildcats lead 7-0 after the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter the Wildcats scored on a short run by Zachary Masessa up the middle. The extra point was missed when a pass to Anthony Lopresti just missed him open in the end zone. On this drive, there was solid blocking by Austin Kelley, Dante Musto and Kyle Marrapodi. The Wildcats defense was solid in the first half with the play of Dan Mayo, Gavin Sudano, Liam Fitzgerald, Noah Golestani, Ryan Cashman and Brendan Tscherne. The Wildcats lead 13-0 at halftime. In the 2nd half the Wildcats scored again in the beginning of the 4th quarter with a 15 yard TD Pass from Matthew Stagnitta to Joey Damato. The pass was perfectly thrown between two defenders and the catch by Damato was tremendous. The extra point was run in by Jared Reinson with a powerful run up the middle. Some strong blocking on the drive came from Bill O’Leary and Connor Duwan. The Wildcats had some strong defensive stops through out the 2nd half from Taylor Gatt, Kyle Dudek, Matthew Sloan, Shawn Terlaje and Joseph Mercurio. There were also some strong special team play by Eric Lisanti and Jack Winge, and other exceptional plays were contributed by Paul Tedeschi and Matthew Remson. MONTY GREEN FLAG The Montgomery Wildcats Green Squad faced off against Somerville on Sunday. The Wildcats scored one touchdown in a close game, and were led by Will Griesinger, Tyler Internoscia and Michael Milano, who combined for 105 yards on seven carries. Lee Poirier, Gavin Kirk, Lucas Kopecky and Danny Boyer added to the rushing attack with another 40 yards on nine carries. The offensive line, led by Shane Ajamian and Jack Helberg controlled the line of scrimmage for most of the game. On the defensive side of the ball, Max Wendling, Ryan Furey, Evan Goldsmith and Shane Ajamian contributed with several tackles stopping big plays by Somerville. Will Griesinger and Tyler Internoscia each broke up Somerville passing attempts. The Wildcats played a tough game, and had a lot of fun. The Wildcats missed Ryan Tollefsen, who sat out due to an injured foot, but hope to have him back next week. MONTY YELLOW FLAG The Montgomery Yellow Flag team traveled to Somerville for tough game against a physical opponent. The strong offensive line played a key role in a solid first half effort. Touchdowns by Christopher Duwan, Cole Sudano and Mack Bloom were set up by great runs from Michael Patron, Nick Kimmick, Anthony Detorrice and Reese Clark. The Yellow team struggled early on defense allowing two quick touchdowns. After that the team tightened up, with strong particularly strong defensive line penetration by Reese Clark and Maxwell Drift. The second half opened with a 40 yard touchdown run by rookie Cole Sudano followed by a 30 yard scamper from fellow rookie Maxwell Drift. Will Marrapodi carried for a number of short runs before breaking away down the left side for the second touchdown of the half. The defense was again highlighted by pressure on the line from Max Drift and Christopher Duwan. Linebacker Reese Clark made a number of key stops and safety Mack Bloom picked off a Somerville pass for his first interception of the season. With a strong showing from all members of the squad, a 28-21 victory was in books. |
