MONTGOMERY WILDCATS – SUNDAY 9/23 GAMES MONTGOMERY MIDGETS The Montgomery Wildcats Midgets were defeated 18-0 by a strong Hunterdon Huskies team. At the end of the Wildcats first offensive series, Mark Flood punted the ball for more than 50 yards, pinning the Huskies at their own 5 yard line. Although the Wildcats had some good tackling by Flood, Franky Aguilar, and Brian Papsin, the Widlcats were unable to keep the Huskies out of the end zone on their first offensive drive. However, a strong defensive line rush allowed David Mullin to block the extra point. The Wildcats best offensive drive came on the next series starting with a strong run up the middle by Jake Lipowski, a key pass completion from Mike Murphy to Doug Warren for a first down, and then a 9 yard run by Aguilar. Unfortunately, the Wildcats fumbled later in the possession, giving up the ball to the Huskies on the Montgomery 45 yard line. The Huskies scored again, but their extra point attempt was blocked by Lipowski. The Wildcats trailed the Huskies 18-0 at the end of the first half. The Wildcats defense really came to life during the second half with some good tackling by Flood, Chris Frezza, Papsin, Ian Gorman, Kevin Hendrickson, Warren, Erik Pedinoff and Lipowski. Offensively, Murphy completed a pass to Flood for first down, that was followed by an 11 yard run by Lipowski. During the second half, the Wildcats defense was very strong, keeping the Huskies out of the end zone during the second half. MONTY JR. MIDGETS The Montgomery Jr. Midgets lost 27-8 to the defending Pop Warner National Champion Hunterdon Huskies. After falling behind 20-0 at halftime, the Wildcats fought back to outscore Hunterdon 8-7 in the 2nd half. The 2nd half defense was led by the inspired play of Nose Guard Zach Slotkin and Linebackers Ryan Boyle and Josh Reinson. Boyle shut down a Hunterdon drive by causing a fumble that was recovered by Matt Charlton. Michael Boyer, Sean O’Brien, and Jake Colangelo solid play upfront contributed as well to keeping the powerful Huskies in check. Offensively, the Wildcats scored only the 2nd touchdown let up by the Huskies in their last 10 conference games. The 41-yard scoring drive was set up by a big kickoff return by Reinson. QB Ben Kalan engineered the drive, which was capped by a 19 yard touchdown run by David Bergida. The drive was highlighted by the running of Tailback Bergida, blocking of Fullback Brian Mayer and Center Louis Colonna. Tyler Ajamian, Nick Mertz, Robert King, Erik Witten, and Hanson Koota all provided key blocks during the drive. MONTY PEE WEES The Montgomery Wildcat Pee Wees lost 30-0 to the Hunterdon Huskies. The Montgomery defense played well in the first half forcing two fumbles which were recovered by Wade Baldwin and Jonathon Gulardo. After the second fumble recovery, the Wildcats mounted an impressive offensive drive with strong runs by Baldwin and Josh Lipowski, and two long pass completions from Baldwin to speedy receiver Mark Maslanka. Offensive blocking was provided by Jared Dellaratta, Ryan Gorman, Jake Jukubski, Ryan Disdier, Kevin Kolb and Adam Koel. The drive ended on the Huskies’ eight yard line as the half expired with the Huskies leading 8-0. Leading tacklers for Montgomery were Baldwin, CJ Gatt, Gulardo and Sam Oltmans while Marco Musto recorded his first solo tackle of the season. Some key defensive plays were made by Nico Rembert and Zach Mayer. MONTY JR. PEE WEE The Montgomery Jr. Pee Wees were defeated by the Hunterdon Huskies 34–12 on Sunday. On the Huskies opening possession, an interception by Chris Chugunov stopped the Huskies first drive. Despite some solid defensive play by Jake Bobal, Sean Curry, Kyle McLester, Matt Spallucci, Matt Herman, Evan Tracey and Patrick Fritzinger the Huskies offense was hard to stop and the Huskies took a 20-0 half time lead. Chugunov also blocked an extra point attempt in the second quarter. In the second half the Wildcats offense scored twice by showing a strong running attack. In the third quarter, Chris Chugunov scored on a 13 yard quarterback keeper and Devon Meadows blazed 80 yards for the second score. Great offensive blocking by Ryan Murphy, Andrew Bowman, Anthony Sempervive, Frankie Wendling, Brett Ajamian and Mike Remsen helped set up the scores. Late in the fourth quarter another scoring drive was started by a 25 yard pass play to Tight End Mike Decker from Quarterback Joey DiTorrice and hard running off tackle by half back Greg Shiffner. The Huskies tightened up their defense to stop the final drive. Devon Meadows finished with 125 yards rushing for the Wildcats. MONTY MITEY-MITES The Montgomery Wildcats Mitey-Mites lost to the Hunterdon Huskies 16-0 in a very tough game. This was the Mitey-Mites first game of the season that they did not score an offensive touchdown. The Wildcats defense was solid in the first half. Some standouts were Jake DeMato, Liam Fitzgerald, Brandon Szigeti, Anthony Lopresti and Matthew Remson. Even though the offense was shutout, there was some solid blocking by Matthew Sloan, Shawn Teriaje, Kyle Marrapodi, Arthur Sokoloff and Gavin Sudano throughout the first half. The Wildcats were down 8-0 at halftime. In the 2nd half, the Huskies scored a TD on another long run but missed the extra point conversation giving them a 14-0 lead. Their final score came when they sacked Matthew Stagnitta in the end zone for a safety giving them the 16-0 win. The Wildcats had some strong defensive stops through out the the 2nd half from Taylor Gatt, Kevin McLester, Mitchell Chugonov, and Joseph Mercurio. In addition, the defense made a goal line stand towards the end of the game holding the Huskies out of the end zone on the one yard line. Some key tackles were made by Dan Mayo, Wyatt Colangelo and Matthew Stagnitta. There also was some strong special team play by Joey Damato, Zachary Masessa, Michael Patrizio, and Brendan Tscherne. Some other exceptional play was contributed by Kyle Dudek, Ryan Cashman, Austin Kelley, Bill O’Leary, Paul Tedeschi and Dante Musto. |
