The Jackson and Perkins research center is just outside Somis California near the coast. Roses are heavy feeders amd it takes a lot of energy to produce those large and magnificent blooms. Each year, between 300,000 and 400,000 seedlings are grown and evaluated at the research facility. New roses offer easier planting due to more pliable roots that need smaller holes and suffer less transplant shock. Rose leaves develop in sets of three, five, even seven or nine leaflets.
