| During the moment of silence, Mayor Nolan
recognized Bill Fallon, former council member and long-time resident of
Rocky Hill, who was a victim in the attack on the World Trade Center.
Engineer’s Report: The leaf pick-up contract was awarded to G&T
Landscaping for $3,200. Dates will be determined at the next council
meeting. The parking lot of Borough Hall will be crack-filled and seal
coated on Saturday, 9/23, weather permitting. The River Road Bridge project
has moved up in priority and the county will be seeking Borough comment.
Council reiterated their concerns: that completion of Blue Spring Road and
the Opossum Road Bridge precede the start and that some traffic calming
elements on River Road be engineered to coordinate with the current 518
project. With additional grant funds, Lemore Circle will be included with
the re-construction of Merritt and Toth.
Council indicated that the Planning Board’s approval of Santa Fe Grille
signs is setting a bad precedent due to general sign proliferation.
Consensus was that the signs be allowed during construction of 518 but must
be removed as road work is completed.
FALL CLEAN-UP IS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20. All items must be curbside by 7
AM.
Recent traffic back-up on Montgomery Avenue is due to reconstruction at
the Griggstown Causeway.
Consideration of the full-time community policing officer from the State
police is on hold due to the terrorist attacks. The State troopers are being
reassigned to many other duties related to security.
RCN Cable complaints can be communicated by filling out a form in Borough
Hall. RCN is expected to come into each municipality before upgrading their
system and within 60 days should be contacting Rocky Hill.
Council passed a resolution authorizing the planting of a memorial tree
for Bill Fallon. Mayor Nolan will coordinate this with the Community Group.
Borough Clerk Whitlock requested Council consider the purchase of General
Code books. This is an ongoing service which codifies Borough ordinances
currently on the books and updates annually changes in ordinances. It would
be an initial investment of about $8,000 and then annual fees for
maintenance. Council will discuss this more next meeting.
Council passed a resolution designating October 6, 2001 as a National Day
of Unity and Mourning, which will be recognized at the Tricentennial.
The Shade Tree Committee planted 30 mums on Washing-ton Street and at
Borough Hall. They sold 404 mums during their inaugural mum sale. |
