| Dave Staph, Borough Engineer, reported: 1) the
Nextel contract, to put an antenna on the water tower, is for $2,000 a
month, the same as with AT&T; 2) Conti Construction was the only
bidder for the reconstruction of Merritt and Toth Lanes, the bid was lower
than expected; 3) the resealing of the Toth Lane well will continue; and
4) the traffic calming work on Washington Street will begin on September
4th or 5th.
Representatives from the Washington Knoll Association brought three
concerns to Council about the ARC home site: drainage, trucks and trees.
Our engineer will resolve the problems with the contractor.
After a brief discussion, the Council agreed to let VALIC handle the
LOSAP (Length of Service Award Program) pro-gram for the fire company and
rescue squad. Council member Merritt stepped down to the role of resident
to ask about protecting his right of appeal from a Planning Board
decision. He and his wife told of the hassle getting a permit to side a
shed and the frustration in dealing with the Board. Another resident
seconded their complaints. The Council had addressed the permit problems a
few years ago and was surprised the process has not been changed. The
Board Chair and lawyer will be asked to attend the 9/17 meeting for
clarification and resolution.
State Police Officer Dempsey reported that 32 summons, 21 warnings, and
1 criminal investigation (assault) were issued in July. Since a resident,
wanting a 3-way stop, had paid for an investigation of accidents at Reeve
and Crescent, SPO Dempsey found there had been none there in four years,
but that there had been accidents in the Borough as follows: in 1998 - 26
accidents, in 1999 - 20 accidents, in 2000 - 24 accidents (7 accidents in
February during many storms) and 16 accidents this year. None has been DWI. |
