7/17/01 Borough Council Meeting Minutes
Absent: C. Pihokken, M. Engetbrecht
Location of road bumps on Merritt Lane was discussed. Mr. O'Brian, 2 Merritt, felt that six bumps were excessive. Gabrielle Dietrich and Krishna Anjur, 11 Merritt, felt one bump should be closer to Montgomery because as presently configured there is time for cars to speed up before reaching Montgomery Avenue. Mayor Nolan said the present design calls for five bumps. Mr. Staph said the configuration was based on recommendations from the Institute of Traffic Engineers but the fifth bump could be moved closer to Montgomery and still allow for grade. Council passed a motion to request this change.

Council approved purchase of a computer network to be installed in the Borough office.

Mayor Nolan will meet with the judge to sort out inefficiencies in the administration of the court.

Construction Official L. Raffaelli issued nine permits this month. Stephen Steinlight has been hired as the new Electri- cal Inspector. Mr. Raffaelli will continue discussions aimed at removing the lived-in trailer at 90 Princeton Avenue. The Mayor suggested that he have State Police accompany him.

Mayor Nolan reported that plans for the Tricentennial Celebration are progressing.

Rose Samus, Washington Street Station, appeared before Council to question the increase of her liquor license fee. Council had notified her of the increase from $960 to $2000 and that future increases would be automatic. Following discussion, Council changed the fee to $1152 effective 6/l/02 and agreed that Ms. Samus could in the future come before Council to discuss an increase.

Angie Berfios has requested that a parking place at 186 Washington be designated as Handicapped due to her present disability. After discussion of issues such as the loss of two parking spaces and the advisability of setting precedent, Council felt they did not have enough information to make a decision.

The Shade Tree Committee announces the Memorial Tree Program. This program offers residents the opportunity to provide a living memorial by ordering a tree which the Shade Tree Committee will have planted during either the spring or fall planting season. A marker with the memorial information will be placed at each tree. For further information call Peggy Harris at 924-5107.
