| Council voted to replace the water main on
Merritt Lane and to reconstruct Merritt and Toth Lanes. Council also voted
to purchase a rescue vehicle for $56,000. A grant application will be sent
to the Department of Transportation for work on Merritt, Lemore,
Princeton, Crescent and Montgomery Avenues.
Several letters from Merritt Lane homeowners concerned about the number
of speed bumps and about the effect of the planned traffic canning
measures were given to Council. There are currently four speed bumps
planned for Merritt Lane. Some residents felt five would be more
effective. Residents are also concerned that narrowing the intersection of
Washington and Montgomery will encourage drivers to turn onto Merritt.
Council will monitor the impact of traffic calming and take action if
problems arise. The Borough Engineer will be asked to send all Merritt
Lane homeowners a map showing exact locations of the speed bumps, so that
they can bring their concerns to the next meeting.
Councilman Morren raised concerns about Council's response to the EPA's
request to upgrade monitoring wells, drill a new monitoring well and halt
sealing of an existing well. Mr. Morren suggested that "we are
shooting ourselves in the foot" as our goals are to be reimbursed for
the expenses of treating the water for twenty years and to deal with the
problems of communicating with EPA. Other members of Council felt that EPA
has shown no willingness to help the Borough and has involved the Borough
in expense. Mayor Nolan intends to contact Representative Rush Holt.
The Recreation Committee has drafted a survey concerning the tennis
courts and other recreational interests of residents. The results will be
useful in determining the fate of the tennis courts and the planning for
recreational use of Green Acres. |
