John Hart, Signer
John Hart of Hopewell bought a gristmill and fulling mill at Rocky Hill in 1773. He and his son-in-law, John Polhemus, operated both mills and Hart's son, Jesse, managed the transportation of flour, food, and textiles.

In July 1774, Hart was elected to ft First Provincial Congress of Now Jersey and was later sent to the Continental Congress in June 1776. He was one of the New Jersey signers of the Declaration of Independence along with Jefferson, Adams, Franklin and others.

Rocky Hill Remembers is published quarterly by the Rocky Hill Heritage Project.  The Rocky Hill Community Group sponsors this publication as a means of sharing our past with all of our residents. Suggestions and comments may be directed to volunteer, Jeanette Muser at 924 - 1802.
