The Rocky Hill Gazette welcomes your comments and will publish items of social, civic and governmental interest to our readers. News articles and letters may be sent to The Rocky Hill Gazette, 29 Toth Lane, Rocky Hill, NJ 08553. We will endeavor to print all items as received, however, limitations of space on occasion may require some editing on our part. The deadline for the March issue is Monday, March 19, 2001. Since it is our policy that The Rocky Hill Gazette be non-profit, we are happy to accept your sponsorship of $50.00 or contribution in any amount up to the limit of our printing costs. Individuals living outside of Rocky Hill who wish a copy may send us a supply of stamped, self-addressed, business-size envelopes, and we will be happy to mail the paper to them.

BOROUGH COUNCIL 1/16/01

Dave Staph, Borough Engineer, reported: 1) there was a problem sealing the well behind the school and more cement will be poured when the weather is warmer: 2) the contracts for repaving Toth and Merritt must be in place by Sept. 1: and 3) the agreements with Stonebridge are not yet final.

State Police Trooper Sawasky reported that periodic patrols are policing the Borough and speeding is down. $1500 in traffic fines have been collected. The State Police answered 14 medi-cal/property checks in January.

Residents are clearing sidewalks after a snowfall. Only two summons were issued after the first January storm.

Rocky Hill will receive a $4000 grant from the Clean Com-munities for 2001.

Councilman Merritt has been elected Vice President of the Somerset County Governing Officials.

Appointments: Gabriel Dietrich to the Shade Tree Commis-sion to 12/31/04; Raymond J. Stine, alternate Municipal Prosecutor to 12/31/01.

The new school Superintendent starts March 1st . The Board plans to invite the Superintendent to a town meeting in the fall.

Two seats are open for this year’s School Board election. Randi Zimmerman will run for re-election and President Cann will not run for re-election. Petitions for open seats are due Feb. 26th .

FIRST REFORMED CHURCH OF ROCKY Hill

Ash Wednesday Service on Feb. 28th, 7 - 7:45 PM and Lenten Service on Wednesday, March 7th, 7 - 7:30 PM.

Lasagna Dinner and Bake Sale on Saturday, April 21st from 5 till 8 PM. Cost - $9.50 for adults, $5.00 for children ages 6 to 12.

FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS

The following students have been named to the 2000 Dean’s list; at Lehigh University Ryan Cann; at Alfred University Nicholas Christoff and at Widener University Sara Querec. Congratulations to all of you.

Sara Durling is going to celebrate her 100th birthday on March 4th. Send her a birthday card to 1 Montgomery Box 125, Rocky Hill, NJ 08553. The more cards the better! What a won-derful achievement!. Happy Birthday, Sara.

Cliff Moore, a 19 year resident of Rocky Hill, has pur-chased the “Montgomery News”. Good luck, Cliff.

A baby boy was born to Richard and Melissa Bernardi on January 16th.

A son was also born to Joe and Kim Hamlett, since named Joseph III, on January 18th. Kim and Joe are former Rocky Hill residents.

Don McLeod’s brother, James, recently died in Baltimore, Md.

Anthony Ciallella, a lifelong resident of Rocky Hill, re-cently died. Our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Charles Snyder died on February 11th. He was a longtime Rocky Hill resident and a member of the First Reformed Church. He was well known in Rocky Hill and our deepest sympathy is expressed to his family and friends.

Ethel Castaneda received her International Executive MBA from the European Business School of Management (ESIC) in Madrid, Spain on February 9th. Ethel is the daughter of Elba and Antonia Castaneda of Montgomery Avenue.

William Thomas was born to Chris and Paula Eveleigh on February 7th. He joins brother Douglas. Happy grandparents are Doug and Linda Eveleigh of Toth Lane.

MARY JACOBS LIBRARY

Federal and State tax forms are available at the Library. There is a model of the new Library building on display in the

non-fiction room in the library.

GAZETTE

March 2001 starts the Rocky Hill Gazette’s 32nd year. There is a great need for more resident participation. Volunteers are needed to help cover; Borough Council - 1st and 3rd Mondays; Planning Board - 2nd Tuesday; Board of Health - 1st Tuesday; School Board - 4th Wednesday; a Secretary for the Gazette (very short minutes) - 3rd Tuesday; Word Processing of the Gazette and Circulation of the Gazette. Only with your help can the Gazette continue.
